COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Doctor of Philosophy is a higher degree by research in divinity. This degree program is designed for individuals who have already attained a high level of theological education and qualified senior clergy and for individuals who apply a substantial body of knowledge to research, investigate and develop new knowledge, in one or more areas of investigation, scholarship or professional practice. 

The Ph.D. in Divinity coursework requires research, writing, and logical analysis as it expands the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively serve in ministry and also demands that candidates develop the deep theological synthesis necessary for the teaching of theology in ministry.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course of study for the Ph.D. in Divinity consists of:

♦ Students will explore Advanced Biblical Interpretation, and develop a comprehensive understanding of the Christian faith and its application to ministry.

 Advanced Spiritual Formation and Character Development

 Advanced Homiletics and Worship

 Advanced Systematic Theology

â–º Dissertation

The doctoral dissertation, which forms the basis for granting the degree, must be a substantial and original piece of research in a theological area, including: Systematic Theology, Moral Theology, Church History and Historical Theology, Sacred Liturgy, and Sacred Scripture.

The dissertation must be prepared under the direction of a Supervisor on a topic approved by the Supervisor.

Supervision and support are directly provided by Supervisor, who will work with you to develop your emergent research interests into a critical academic dissertation. Applicants are strongly advised to correspond with potential supervisors about their interests and ideas prior to writing their dissertation.

  • ♦ Have served in a Christian ministry role for not less than fifteen (15) years. The experience as a minister includes activities as a senior minister, assistant minister, elder, deacon, missionary, teacher, prison ministry, or chaplaincies, subject to review and approval, and be able to provide verifiable documentation.
  • ♦ Academic transcripts of Completed MA, MDiv, or ThM with 3.5 GPA. or equivalent. It is preferable that you hold a Masters in the chosen area of study.
  • ♦ Copies of your undergraduate and graduate degree certificates
  • ♦ Autobiographical Statement (300 words)
  • ♦ A completed Online Application form.
  • ♦ One copy of a recent photograph (passport size) in addition to the one affixed to the student profile page.
  • ♦ Acceptable forms of identification: e.g., Valid National ID, Driver's License, or International Passport.
  • ♦ Two references other than family members
