Systematic Theology provides specialized study in Christian doctrine: its biblical grounding, historical development, logical coherence, and contemporary context. Studying how all the different components of God and faith fit together. It’s kind of like putting theology into a framework.

The purpose of organizing theology this way is so that it can be united and comprehended in a single worldview. The program is to deepen students’ study & understanding in specialized areas of academic disciplines, resulting in a major, profitable & original contribution to scholarship.

► Part I - Core Courses

♦  PhDTh 332 -Advanced Old Testament Studies

This is not an Old Testament Survey. Rather, the course is an analytical study of the Old Testament and its themes and the theology that can be derived from these. The scope of the Old Testament and the nature of its theology, deepen your understanding of the Christian faith and life by exploring its Biblical roots, political theology framework, missional thrust, ethical calling, historical development, and global context.

♦  PhDTh 322 -Advanced New Testament Studies

The exposition of the NT in grammatical, historical and cultural terms. Define and explain the structure and subject matter of NT Theology. And analyze the different approaches and methods to the study of NT Theology, and their unique messages and purposes for both the Christian believers and the wider world. 

♦  PhDTh 431 -Advanced Bible Study Method 

Develop creative teaching methods and strategies that elicit better learning results, better relate teaching methods and strategies to students’ developmental nature and needs according to their age level. Demonstrate competence in teaching Biblical values, narratives, doctrines, parables, and Bible personalities.

Identify workable theories and principles applicable in the process of teaching and learning. Develop proficiency in constructing teaching plan with appropriate behavioral objectives, teaching methods and strategies.

♦  PhDTh 450 -Advanced Biblical Hermeneutics

The science and art of understanding, translating, and explaining the meaning of the Scripture text. To explain the meaning or words to a person who does not understand them; to expound; to translate unintelligible words into intelligible ones; as, to interpret the Hebrew language to an Englishman.

♦  PhDTh 343 -Advanced Systematic Theology I

An advanced survey of basic theological topics, such as the Triune God, the Nature of God, the relationships, and roles of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with attention to theological method and historical development.

♦  PhDTh 344 -Advanced Systematic Theology II

Studying ultimate realities, human predicaments and religious fulfillments, and religion,  respectively. Study focus on theology as a coherent discipline, with immediate application to life and service. Topics include: sin/salvation/Christology, and sanctification/ecclesiology, or God, Christ, Holy Spirit, and Biblical Eschatology. The methodology of the course is provided by philosophical theology that aims to interpret most of the major religious traditions but in this course it is exemplified primarily with Christian material.

♦  PhDTh 441 -Biblical Intertextuality

Study of the various ways in which biblical authors use earlier Scripture. Special attention is given to the New Testament use of the Old Testament and the hermeneutical implications of this usage. Evaluation of contemporary perspectives on biblical intertextuality.

Proposal and approval of a PhD dissertation topic. Research and writing of the prospectus.
